Chess Tournament Regulations
World Company Sports Games – Chess Tournament
1. Tournament Format
The tournament is a 9-round Round Robin.
There are 10 players representing 6 nations.
Each player plays every other player once.
Pairings and round schedules are determined by the organizer.
2. Time Control
Time control is 30 minutes per player for the entire game.
No increment or delay is used unless announced by the organizer before the tournament.
A player loses the game if they exceed their allotted time, provided the opponent has sufficient mating material.
3. Laws of Chess
The tournament is played according to the current FIDE Laws of Chess, except where modified by these regulations.
Fair play and good sportsmanship are expected at all times.
4. Recording Results
At the end of each game, both players must verify the result.
The result card must be completed clearly and submitted to the arbiter's table immediately after the game.
5. Late Arrival
Players are expected to be seated and ready when the round starts.
The default time is 30 minutes.
A player who arrives more than 30 minutes after the official start of the round shall lose the game unless the arbiter decides otherwise in exceptional circumstances.
6. Illegal Moves
An illegal move is completed once the player has pressed their clock.
First illegal move: The opponent receives a warning.
Second illegal move by the same player: Loss of the game.
The arbiter's decision on illegal moves is final.
7. Conduct
Mobile phones and electronic devices must be switched off or placed in silent mode and not used during play.
Players may not receive assistance, analysis, or advice from spectators or other players.
Unsporting behaviour may result in penalties at the arbiter's discretion.
8. Fair Play
Players shall respect opponents, arbiters, and organizers.
Any suspected breach of fair play regulations should be reported to the arbiter immediately.
9. Tie-Breaks
If two or more players finish on the same score, the following tie-breaks will be applied in order: Direct encounter. Sonneborn-Berger score. Greater number of wins. Blitz chess.
10. Arbiter's Decisions
The arbiter's interpretation of these regulations is final.
Any situation not covered by these regulations shall be decided by the arbiter in accordance with the FIDE Laws of Chess.
