Omashu Earth Kingdom
Omashu Fire Nation
Omashu is the second-largest city in the Earth Kingdom. In the time of Avatar Aang, it is ruled by "mad genius" King Bumi. It served as an Earth Kingdom stronghold during the Hundred Year War.
Founding
Omashu is said to have been founded by two lovers named Oma and Shu. Oma and Shu were from rival villages and weren't allowed to see each other. So they learnt Earthbending from the Badgermoles (the first earthbenders). Oma and Shu became the first human earthbenders and using their earthbending, they carved out tunnels so they could meet in secret. Anyone who tried to enter the tunnels would be lost forever in the labyrinth.
Then tragedy struck, Shu was killed in the battles between the two villages. In anger, Oma showed off a powerful display of her Earthbending, which could easily have destroyed both villages. Instead of causing more destruction, Oma demanded that the villages make peace and together the two villages came together to build Omashu.
Avatar Kuruk's time
Omashu flourished in the time of avatar Kuruk, becoming a major hub for trading, with several large ports providing the city with resources. After Kuruk's death, the new King Buro searched for the Avatar but like all before him, he failed.
Kyoshi's time
In the time of Chin the Great, the entire Earth Kingdom (except Ba sing Se) were conquered by Chin, Omashu being no exception.
Chin's conquests are green, the Earth Kingdom is cream.
Hundred Year War
Following the start of The Hundred Year War, Omashu served as a stronghold and weapons producer for the Earth Kingdom army, and completely held out against the Fire Nation until the last year of the war.
At the very end of the war, Omashu was conquered by the Fire Nation, the name was changed to New Ozai after the Fire Lord. As for the King, Bumi, he used Earthbending's Neutral Jing (doing nothing) and then in The Day of Black Sun, reclaims his city from the Fire Nation.
The Government in Omashu is pretty much a dictatorship. There's the king and he has power over the whole city, no one can really veto his decision.
Omashu is located just west of the Si Wong Desert. The city has three mountain tops and is also built on a mountain.
Royal Palace
The palace is the home of the King of Omashu, though sadly, we never see the outside of it, but I'm guessing it is the rather large building near the top. The inside of it had many chambers including a throne room, servants' quarters, bedrooms and a battle arena. The palace's numerous doors were all earthbending operated, so that enemies wouldn't be able to get in.
Sewer System
The Omashu Sewer System is a huge labyrinth of interconnecting tunnels. It was used by the Omashu resistance as a place of refuge, after Omashu was captured by the Fire Nation.
New Ozai Palace
The New Ozai Palace was a metal palace built by the Fire Nation after they captured the city. It was built in the place of Bumi's old one, and was for the governor, his family and the Fire Lord or any other royalty if they came to visit.
