In order to have this technology benefit students, it is important to consider fixed vs growth mindset. With the use of this technology and using CBT methods, we hope students will be able shift from a fixed to a growth mindset.
Fixed Mindset: "...means that you believe intelligence is fixed—so if you’re not good at something, you might believe you’ll never be good at it." (Smith, 2020).
Growth Mindset: "means that you believe your intelligence and talents can be developed over time." (Smith, 2020).
"A growth mindset also recognizes that setbacks are a necessary part of the learning process and allows people to ‘bounce back’ by increasing motivational effort." (Smith, 2020).
It is common for students who are struggling in specific subjects to get stuck in a fixed mindset. For example, common phrases from students could be...
"I can't do this"
"I am terrible at Math, I'll never get it"
"I could do all the studying in the world and still not get it"
Using CBT and the encouragement of a growth mindset, guiding questions to encourage change through the implant technology could be...
"What if you could do this?"
"How proud of yourself would you be if you worked hard to do well?"
"How can you study the way that best benefits your learning style?"
