The goal for the implant technology would be to align with CBT practices. For example, the notifications or suggestions that would appear in the students eye sight would replicate some of the techniques used in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Therefore, the use of this technique would hopefully encourage students to engrain these helpful ways of thinking with and without the implant technology.
Although CBT can be used for more severe cases such as anxiety disorders, depression, and addiction, it can be known to set a person's mindset on the right pathway.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been known to produce change in a persons way of thinking (APA, 2017). Cognitive Behavioural Therapy bases itself on the following principles:
"Psychological problems are based, in part, on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking." (APA, 2017).
"Psychological problems are based, in part, on learned patterns of unhelpful behavior." (APA, 2017).
"People suffering from psychological problems can learn better ways of coping with them, thereby relieving their symptoms and becoming more effective in their lives." (APA, 2017).
Additionally, CBT tends to target ways of changing ones thinking, especially in a set of a certain mindset. APA, 2017 lists the following strategies:
"Learning to recognize one’s distortions in thinking that are creating problems, and then to reevaluate them in light of reality."
"Gaining a better understanding of the behavior and motivation of others."
"Using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations."
"Learning to develop a greater sense of confidence in one’s own abilities."
The implant technology would use these strategies to target a student's emotions. For example, a student may feel low about a mark on a math test leading to iritability and low self-confidence. This is when the technology would be triggered to notify the student with different coping mechanisms such as asking guiding questions, sending affirmations, and leading them to a more positive direction.
