2021-2022 Workshops

TIFFANY ENGLISH

Managing the Orff Classroom

The Orff-Schulwerk classroom is a unique place, full of creativity, sound, movement, and students engaged in cooperative learning. Because of the active nature of this environment, the OS teacher must have special classroom management strategies that allow for routines and predictable structures, and yet still encourage children to create and take risks. This workshop will focus on developing teachers' strategies to foster and maintain a safe, happy, and productive environment for both the students and teacher.

Tiffany English is the music specialist at Sugar Hill Elementary School in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She holds multiple degrees from the University of Georgia and Piedmont College. Tiffany has served AOSA as Region IV representative, co-chair for the 2014 AOSA Professional Development Conference, as vice president, 2015-2017, and as president, 2017-2019.

Culturally-Responsive Teaching

This workshop is geared toward music educators who want a classroom climate where all students have an equitable chance to be successful. Learn how to begin the work of removing barriers so that students’ identity can be supported. Veronica will also share stories from her own experiences and work with students. Attendees will receive materials to support continued work towards becoming a more culturally responsive educator.

Reaching Every Child: Personalized Learning in the Orff-Inspired Classroom

As we journey together to become more musically and culturally responsive teachers, let us consider how we might improve our Orff-inspired teaching practice through the lens of personalized learning. Building on the inherent musicianship, expressivity, and creativity of every child, what are practical and aspirational ways we might customize the music-learning experience for each of our students that not only recognizes but builds on each individual’s unique skills, abilities, preferences, background, and experiences?
