First Iowa Orff Chapter was founded on March 29th, 1974, and is a chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.  Both are professional organizations of educators dedicated to the creative music and movement approach developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. Our chapter was established to support music educators in Iowa by providing professional development, networking opportunities, and resources for implementing the Orff approach. After the Greater Des Moines chapter dissolved in 2019, First Iowa Orff expanded its reach to serve music educators across all of Iowa, continuing its mission to foster a community of educators dedicated to active, creative, and hands-on music education.
