First Iowa Orff
Welcome to First Iowa Orff
The North East Iowa Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association
Based in Cedar Falls, IA
We are cancelling the April 4, 2020 workshop with Jennifer Donavon due to COVID-19. At this time UNI has cleared all calendar events for the remainder of spring semester, which includes our workshop. We are working with Jennifer to reschedule her workshop during the 2021-2022 school year - since our 2020-2021 dates are already filled with amazing presenters.
- August 28, 2021 - Andrew Ellingson- October 16, 2021 - Chris Olsen- January 22, 2022 - Chapter Share (there are some amazing ideas for this workshop!!!)- April 23, 2022 - Jay Broeker
For those members who paid for the whole 2019-2020 year we will be offering a credit at the August workshop for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition the current FIO board will transition this next year. We have already been in contact and working closely with our new officers who will take over in 2020-2021.

We are seeking nominations to fill the role of Vice President, so if you know of someone, or are interested in becoming part of the leadership team please let any of the current or future leadership know.
As we muddle through these next few months I am reminded of what an amazing group of human beings music educators are. Over the past few days I have seen music teachers from across the country pool their resources and expertise to keep our kiddos making music. If you have not already seen them, I encourage you to check out the American Orff Discussion Group, Meg Tietz's Facebook group - The Singing Space, and Music Educators Creating Online Learning. These are just a few resources that I have run across just this weekend.
It has been an honor serving on the First Iowa Orff Board the past ten years Treasurer, Vice President, and President. I look forward to continue seeing all of you at Orff Workshops and other music events around our state.
With Gratitude,Kate HagenFIO President
Orff Schulwerk is a creative, student-centered, elemental approach to music and movement education. Our chapter is primarily elementary or multi-age music teachers from across the state who gather to share ideas, network, and invite national clinicians to present workshops!
