Purpose of Practicum
The purpose of my practicum at the University of Saint Anthony is to gain practical teaching experience in a school. I want to learn how teaching and school management are different in Indonesia compared to the Philippines. But this experience is not just about academics; I also want to understand more about Filipino culture. During my time here, I’ve been learning a lot about both the education system and the local culture.
Procedures of Practicum
The process of my practicum begins with observations in my Cooperating Teacher's class during the first week. In the second week, I will create my lesson plan, prepare materials, and conduct my first teaching demonstration. Then, in the following week, I will perform my practice teaching.
Outcomes of Practicum
The result of this practicum is this blog report, including my observations, teaching plans, teaching practice, and the excursions from the host university.
The Challenges of Practicum
The challenges I faced during my practicum included a lot of rain, which led to some activities being changed or postponed because classes were canceled due to flooding. Other than that, I didn’t have any major problems during my practicum.
Overall Impression
My time at the University of Saint Anthony was very nice. I learned many valuable experiences, both in academics and culture, that I will always remember. I was welcomed warmly and had the chance to explore USANT and Iriga City, meet great people at USANT, make friends with student buddies and their classmates, get to know the students, visit new places, and try a lot of local food. These memories are very special and unforgettable.
I also learned about the similarities and differences between Indonesia and the Philippines in terms of language, education, food, and culture. A big thank you to the staff and everyone who helped us during our time in the Philippines, providing us with a place to stay and making our trip comfortable and enjoyable. Thanks to the student buddies, students, friends, teachers, staff, and everyone I met while I was there.
Suggestions for Future Improvement
This practicum has been a valuable experience for me. Everything was prepared by USANT so that we could stay comfortably while we were there. I don't have many suggestions for the university hosts, but I hope USANT will continue to grow and always be the best. It was very enjoyable to be there, and I hope to return to Iriga and USANT in the future.
