I had the chance to observe 10th and 9th-grade students during my last two weeks at USANT. Since Sir Bobby couldn't attend class for a week, I first observed the 10th-grade class for one week. The following week, I went back to observe the 9th-grade students with Sir Bobby. I could only observe the 9th grade for 2-3 days during my last week because of events like Smadfest. I observed 8 classes from 7:20 AM to 5 PM. One thing I noticed was that the students were very focused and attentive when lessons started. They actively participated and answered questions during class with Sir Bobby. He explained things clearly, which made learning easier and more enjoyable. Sir Bobby's interaction with the students made the class feel fun and lively, so it wasn't boring. The students welcomed me warmly and were excited to talk with me. Sir Bobby gave me some extra time to get to know the students by ending class 15 minutes early. They asked many questions during our conversations, and I also asked about the Philippines and USANT, learning new words and stuff along the way.
While observing the class, I began planning and preparing the lessons and materials for the practice teaching. I started learning about the topic that Sir Bobby was explaining during the class and getting to know the students' characteristics. The topic was a piece of literature about American theater called The Sandbox. Sir Bobby explained it clearly and briefly during the lesson. He also got the students involved by asking questions and encouraging discussions. The students actively asked questions and shared their thoughts about the characters in the story. Sir Bobby’s explanations were easy to understand, so the students could follow the literature well. During the lesson, he often joked and talked with the students to make the class more fun. In the last meeting, Sir Bobby planned to give quizzes to the students on the topics discussed to check their understanding.
