The University of Saint Anthony (USANT) began as a small high school and later evolved into a college. Founded on August 18, 1947, it attained university status on December 18, 1973. USANT holds the distinction of being the first university in Iriga City and the first university established in the Philippines during martial law.
USANT Junior High School is equipped with a variety of facilities to support its educational mission. These include well-designed classrooms, a principal's room, and dedicated teachers' rooms, all furnished with tables and chairs to create optimal learning environments. To enhance instruction, the school provides electric fans, air conditioning, and projectors, along with an audio-visual room and a computer room for technology-based learning. The library offers a wealth of resources for students, while the school's fields support outdoor activities. Additionally, the cafeteria provides nourishment, and the availability of school supplies and laboratories further enriches the educational experience at USANT Junior High School.
Teaching System
University of Saint Anthony Junior High School has been using a blended learning approach since the pandemic. This means they combine face-to-face instruction with online teaching. When teaching online, they can choose to assign either asynchronous activities, where students complete tasks on their own schedule, or synchronous activities, where everyone participates at the same time
Materials and other learning sources
Every subject area has its own textbook provided by the department’s selected materials. The teachers make sure that these books align with the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) set by the Department of Education in the Philippines. While the textbooks serve as the primary resource, the teachers also incorporate additional materials from the internet, YouTube videos, and custom PowerPoint presentations, adjusting them as needed to enhance the learning experience.
Measurement and Evaluation System
There will be a specific criteria in grading each subject. For English, grades are computed based on the following premises: Written Works - 30%, Performance Task - 50%, and Examination - 20%.
Curriculum
USANT is currently implementing the K to 12 curriculum to help Filipino graduates become globally competitive and highly employable at most of the grade levels. However, with the arrival of the new Secretary of the Department of Education last year, a new curriculum called the MATATAG curriculum was introduced. This curriculum primarily aims to reduce the number of competencies in the current curriculum. Its pilot implementation began with Grade 7 this school year.
Teaching Plan
Sir Bobby creates a lesson plan for each week based on the topic. Since I will be teaching at the end of the week and the topic is nearly complete, he requested that I continue using his lesson plan as a foundation for my teaching practice.
