This criterion involves providing a supportive learning environment for learners.
We already reviewed The Basic Assumption as the foundation for creating a safe learning environment. In addition the following should be considered:
Confidentiality
Learners should understand that it is essential that confidentiality be maintained. They should not discuss details of the simulation case or other students' performance outside the simulation debriefing. This preserves the integrity of the scenario and allows learners to feel safe. The novice simulation educator should:
Supportive Learning Environment
The simulation educator supports active learning, reflection, and deliberate repetitive practice.
This will be addressed in more detail in the Facilitation and Debriefing standards.
Clear Communication and Respectful Feedback
The simulation educator provides clear communication and honest feedback in an effective, respectful manner
This will be addressed in more detail in the Debriefing standard.
Professional Boundaries
The simulation educator maintains professional boundaries to minimize fear of negative consequences to professional role/status and personal relationships (i.e., colleague to colleague, peer to peer, teacher to student, or friend to friend).
