Grace Bagley believed immigrants were vital to the health of the nation. She first promoted the idea of ‘Americanization’ while working on women’s suffrage. During World War I she persuaded political leaders that the war effort would be more widely supported if immigrants felt that America was fighting on their behalf. She served as Chairman of the Americanization Committee of the National American Woman Association (NAWSA.)  Even after women won the right to vote, Grace remained active in politics and supported efforts to help immigrants become naturalized as American citizens.
