1860 - Grace Hodges was born in Champaign, Illinois. She was the daughter of Leonard Hodges (an attorney and real estate investor) and Carrie Almeda Murphy Hodges (whose family had been involved in the Underground RR in Ohio)
Frederick Phillips Bagley was born in Detroit. His father, George F. Bagley, was partner in one of Michigan’s largest wholesale grocery firms
1863 - Hodges family moved to Chicago- Leonard becomes active in developing/ buying/ selling property throughout the city and suburbs (Bio of Hodges in Andreas 1886)
1869 - Leonard Hodges built 3 story brick home for the family on Michigan Ave near 18th Street with French roof and cut stone trimmings
1871 - Great Chicago Fire- burned much of the west and north sides. Chicago immediately begins to rebuild
1873-1877 - F.P. Bagley’s uncle John Judson Bagley, served as the governor of Michigan
1878 - Hodges family resided on 9th Street, South Side- Mrs. Hodges gave a party in honor of a young woman from MN and Grace. This may have been a debutante type event, because, following this, Grace is often mentioned for giving or attending social events.
1883 - Jenkin Lloyd Jones took over as minister at All Souls Church, Chicago
1887 - Frank Lloyd Wright moved to Chicago, worked for Lyman Silsbee who is designing the new All Souls Church for J. L. Jones
ca. 1885 - GB met Julia Ward Howe
1885 - Leonard and Carrie Hodges purchased “Glen Flora” Homestead in Waukegan as second home
December 7, 1885 - Frederick Bagley and Grace Hodges were married at the Hodges estate in Waukegan
