The Company:

Uniqlo Co., Ltd. is a Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. The company operates in Japan and several other countries.

The Project:

Each student or student collaboration group will design and create a complete look to dress an adult male or female mannequin to be displayed in UNIQLO store at THE BLOC in downtown Los Angeles. The final product was on display starting in December and continuing to May. The product, 5 complete designs in total, were accompanied by a designer profile and a picture.

The Project: Tastemakers

Each student or student collaboration group will design and create a complete look to dress an adult male or female mannequin to be displayed in UNIQLO store at THE BLOC in downtown Los Angeles Within the Uniqlo Downtown Los Angeles store a wall of “Tastemakers” showcasing FIDM students was on display for several months. It described their goals, degrees, and other information.

Spring/Summer 2019

Eighteen FIDM students with a passion for sustainable design have been tapped to create unique looks that incorporate textiles from UNIQLO's All-Product Recycling Initiative, and elevate them into harmony between sustainable thinking and artful design.

June 9, 2019 In-Store Event

@FIDM is teaming up with @UNIQLOUSA on Sunday, June 9^th from 10am-12pm at their The Bloc location (700 S. Flower Street), to host a “Seasonal Style Refresh” event with a @vintagesplendor. We will be showcasing the students newest upcycled designs and host a DIY workshop crafting an upcycled tote. Guests are encouraged to bring gently used clothing items to donate to UNIQLO's All-Product Recycling Initiative, which distributes the wearable items to refugees, disaster victims and others in need worldwide. TEXTILE WASTE DESIGN COMPETITION

FIDM students are challenged to utilize their creative skills to develop an engaging and newsworthy story about the UNIQLO All-Product Recycling Initiative.

UNIQLO is maximizing the use of clothing their customers no longer wear. They collect clothing from customers, and distribute the wearable items to refugees, disaster victims, and others in need world wide. Clothing that is deemed unwearable... UNIQLO wants to see what FIDM students can create from the clothing that is not wearable. How will you transform this textile waste into a marketable product?

Project 1: UNIQLO will select 12 FIDM students to create their proposed designs to be dress one mannequin to go on display in UNIQLO at The Bloc during June 2019. This is an individual project.
Project 2: The 12 students will collaborate to create a product (clothing or accessory) that can easily be recreated by UNIQLO customers at an in-store event. This is a group project.
