Course Overview:
Quality starts with fiber selection. Using hands-on experienced based learning methodology, students study how cotton fibers are blended from bales, to yarn production, to textile creation, and how the quality and species of cotton fibers impact the type of yarn that can be spun, dyeability, and the overall aesthetic and quality of the end product. In addition to classroom activities, students will travel to Cotton Incorporated Headquarters in North Carolina (travel dates TBD).
The Game Changer and Active Indigo competitions are open to all FIDM students enrolled in Winter 2018 and/or Spring 2018 Quarters, all FIDM campuses, and all FIDM majors.
Applications for both projects are currently closed.
Students in The Game Changer competition were challenged to come up with the next big idea for cotton. Students pitched their concepts to a panel of industry professionals in a shark tank style format to complete for scholarships.
One of winning ideas came from Karolina Garcia for her innovative use of cotton fibers, cotton seeds, and cotton oil to create a clean beauty skin care kit.
Students in Active Indigo were challenged to design 3 garments, 1 traditional denim, 1 traditional activewear, and 1 hybrid garment that includes both denim and activewear fabrics that are cotton rich.
