Research is a major part of any project and I want to do as much as possible before I need to move onto developments, I intend to do a good amount of both primary and secondary research. This research will hopefully allow me to make informed choices as to what I should be doing at each part of the project, the best ways to complete certain tasks, what I should be using for making different aspects of the project and much, much more. Below is a full explanation on what the two types of research are and how they differ from one-another.
PRIMARY RESEARCH
Primary research is research that would be conducted by me personally, this means that things like surveys and interviews conducted by me would count as primary research since I personally would be getting that information from the people with the information I need.
Pros -
You can be very specific with questions
You know the source is reliable and no information ahs been misrepresented as you are talking directly to the source
Cons -
It takes longer to conduct than secondary research
Primary research requires a lot of planning
You have to filter out joke answers on your own, when in secondary research you have them filtered out by someone else unrelated to you
SECONDARY RESEARCH
Secondary research is research that has been conducted by other people, coming from sources such as books, websites and any source that isn't direct. This research tends to be less reliable as you have to trust the person the information is coming from and their sources too, you also can't be as specific as you have to make do with the information the other person or people have gathered, probably with questions that aren't entirely the same as the ones you have. This is obviously a downside which lowers the quality of the research you can gather, but the quantity of research and the speed you can research at is massively increased. This means that in plenty of circumstances the downsides are nearly completely negated by the positives.
Pros -
Very quick research type
Plenty of online and physical research sources
Doesn't require any planning work
Cons -
Reliability is questionable
Not as specific as the primary research
The sheer quantity can make all secondary research hard to keep in mind at once (might need a refresher)
