Professional Portfolio 1
The first portfolio I have decided to look at is a game programmer one by someone called Josh Caratelli, he claims on his portfolio site to have worked on games like Call Of Duty Vanguard as well as other COD titles such as WW2 and Modern Warfare. The first thing I picked up on when opening the site was that it looks very professional, arguably too professional for a creative industry like game development as it could be quite off putting for some people who just want someone there to do the work and not to add any feelings of corporatism into their project like they did with their site. The layout of this site is a single page that you can scroll down, they clearly set out the different things they are capable of in a sort of list format as well as having different projects they have worked on and their role in those projects clearly in different segments just above their actual CV.
How will this influence my own portfolio?
This portfolio has shown me just how important it is in the industry to show off the projects you have worked on as well as the role you played, it also showed me that it's important to get yourself and your personality to shine through your portfolio, this is done on this site by him having an interview he had done whilst working for Activision, and really shows how happy and into his work he is. My one major issue is the corporate fonts he used and how the site just looks like he wants a job rather than him actually enjoying his work.
Things I want to do -
Avoid The Business / Corporate Look
Show Some Personality (Interviews???)
Show Off Previous Work
Professional Portfolio 2
Another portfolio that I looked at was by a person named Amy Elliot, this portfolio was centred around games programming and just like the first portfolio I looked at looks very interesting and professional. The first thing I noticed was how the site doesn't have the same feeling of being part of corporate, instead having a clear personality through features such as the top of the site having a gif of some gameplay they programmed as a banner rather than a boring image. Furthermore, they have their contact information clearly visible on the site for potential employees or curious students, as well as having a short paragraph on who they are as a person and the previous personal projects and games they have worked on. Their site is also really well organised, they have games, projects and their blog on seperate buttons as you open the site as well as having very clear layouts for their former work rather than having their work strewn about their site as some people do.
How will this influence my own portfolio?
This portfolio really interests me with how they use a gif of one of their games on their site as their banner, it's eyecatching and definitely made me want to know their role in that production. I also like how they explain a little bit about who they are and show off not only their work projects but also their personal projects, this shows me how much they really care about this sort of work to do it in their own time. I also really like how a viewer can just click on a game to see more information about it, this is a realyl user friendly feature uncommon on less professional sites.
Things I Want To Do -
Have A Short Paragraph On Who I Am
Clearly Layout My Previous Work And Personal Projects
Have Some Gameplay Videos Rather Than Just Screenshots
Have Interactivity Like Image Portals To More Information
