Mr. Christopher Maneke

Christopher Maneke is the band and orchestra director at Flint Southwestern High School. He is serving in his fourth year in this position after holding various positions during his 28 year career with the Flint Schools. He is a graduate of Hill-McCloy High School in Montrose, where he participated sucessfully in Marching, Concert and Jazz Bands, helping win many awards for the program. Chris attended UM-Flint and earned his Bachelor of Music Education before hiring in at Flint Central High School to start his full time professional career. He later earned a Masters in Education from Marygrove College of Detroit. He has served as a department chair, a leader in organizing fine arts meetings and professional development sessions, worked for 10 years as a district officer for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and has literally taught thousands of students over the years.
My philosophy is to try giving our students the same positive and affirming experiences I received when I was a youth band member. Music speaks to parts of us often not reached by other means and being able to experience the joy of giving a quality performance makes all the study and practice worthwhile.
