TREASURE HUNT - AROUND OUR LOCAL HERITAGE TRAIL
MONDAY 30 AUGUST BETWEEN 11AM AND 2PM
Join us for the biggest “treasure” hunt ever organised in our area, to discover more about its hidden treasures! These are the places and spaces that we value and would encourage people to find out more about.
When? Bank Holiday Monday August 30th. The treasure hunt begins at 11 am and ends at 2pm. We start and finish at the Jubilee pub where you’ll see our stall in the car park. People can jump in and out from the event, have lunch and then go back to it, or do it in one go. There are two “loops” making up a figure 8, with the Jubilee in the middle. You can do the Coxlodge loop or the Fawdon loop or you can do them both together.
Who is it for? A fun event for all, a nice way to spend a day out discovering more about our area. Kids, families, teens, grandparents, friends and our wider community, everyone is invited to take part and enjoy a day out. You can participate alone or as part of a team, as big as you wish. Bring family members and friends with you but be aware of the Government’s social distancing requirements. The event is organised and run entirely by our residents and is completely free. Just join us and have fun!
Covid19? To make sure we protect ourselves and the others, the event will take place outdoors. Should you need to interact closely with people outside your group (for example at registration time), please wear a mask covering your nose and mouth and keep 2m apart.
How to take part? To allow us to better organise the event, it would be great if you could register in advance, either by sending an email to fawdonandcoxlodgetogether@gmail.com with your name and number of participants, or by accepting our Facebook invitation
https://www.facebook.com/fawdonandcoxlodgetogether
But please don’t worry if you don’t wish to register online - you can always register on the day at the Jubilee; we will be happy to enrol your team on the spot!
How will it work ? Where will I be going?
On the day of the event, each team will be asked to give themselves a name and to check-in at our stall in the Jubilee Pub car park where we’ll give you a map with the route and the places to locate. We’ll also give you a question for each stop - the answer will be visible on or very close to each of our “treasures” when you reach them. In addition, there will be a chance at each stop for you to learn a little more about the place, and there’s a suggested action for you to follow in the future. You should write down on your map the answers to the questions and bring the sheet back to the start to hand in by 2pm - or take it home and send it to us by 10pm via photo or scan. Everyone who gets the answers to the questions correct will be entered into a free draw and there’ll be a prize for the Fawdon loop, a prize for the Coxlodge loop and another for the full figure 8 route.
Our Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/fawdonandcoxlodgetogether ) will be the place where we will keep the flow of information going. And we’ll encourage you to post any comments or photos on that site.
How long is the treasure hunt? Will it be tiring? The treasure hunt will be a good opportunity not just to discover more about our area, but also to keep fit and enjoy the exercise. You are free to choose whatever way you prefer to move, provided it’s not an engine; you can walk or run from place to place, or you can use your bicycle, your scooter, or a mix of all these. Both loops are a little under a mile and a half in distance, so two and a half to three miles if you do them both.
Of course, if you can’t make it on the 30th, then you can use the map and do the trail to hunt for our treasures at any time afterwards. We’ll post all the information you need on our Facebook page.
