Growing Fawdon Together is a community-led environmental and wellbeing project bringing residents, children, volunteers and local partners together to care for Dykefield and strengthen connections across Fawdon. Through practical activities, creative workshops and a shared community celebration, the project will encourage people of all ages to spend time outdoors, learn new skills and play an active role in improving their neighbourhood.
Developed in response to local conversations and FACT’s 2025 community survey, the project reflects residents’ strong interest in greener spaces, more planting and greater opportunities to get involved. Running from August to December 2026, Growing Fawdon Together is delivered by Fawdon and Coxlodge Together and funded by the Small Sparks Plus Fund, Round 3. The project will combine environmental action, school engagement and community participation to help create a greener, healthier and more connected Fawdon.
Residents and volunteers will work together to improve Dykefield and nearby green spaces through practical planting sessions and a community treasure hunt. The activities will help brighten the area, support biodiversity and encourage people of all ages to explore, enjoy and care for their local environment.
Pupils at a local primary school will take part in a creative environmental workshop exploring biodiversity, recycling, planting and the future of Dykefield. Through drawings, maps and group activities, children will share their ideas for improving the area and learn how they can help care for their local environment.
The project will culminate in a community event at Fawdon Community Centre, bringing residents, families and volunteers together to celebrate what has been achieved. The event will include a recycled-pot planting competition, practical workshops, activities on biodiversity and sustainable gardening, and displays showcasing ideas and contributions from across the project.
