'Surname Proost' or in dutch 'familienaam Proost' is the collecting point of results about genealogical investigations i the group of those name carriers living in Belgium (with some detours in the Netherlands). In the heart of the territory of this two countries we find the old duchy of Brabant. Nowadays the provinces - descending from north to south- North Brabant (NL), Antwerp (B), Flemish Brabant (B), Walloon Brabant (B) and Brussels Capital Region (B) are the virtual successors of this duchy.
Research has proved that the heartland for most of these Belgian name barriers Proost lies in the 'Land van Turnhout', a seigniory in the same principality. A very small part of those Belgian residents is originated from the Netherlands, mostly from the north-west in the same old duchy of Brabant (Willemstad, Bergen op Zoom, ...).
The main part of this research consists of composing the family tree(s) of this name barriers. In addition by a DNA search for the y-haplotypes and y-haplogroup in a sample of the male indivividuals I hope to determine if those name carriers are originative from the same genetic forefather.

In 2016 a comparison of the y-haplotypes of 9 men of 4 different Proost-families showed that they share the same male ancestor from today's period up to a thousand years ago.
Due to new Belgian legalistive measures about 'biobanks' the genetic project is put on hold.

Au cœur du territoire de ces deux pays, nous trouvons l'ancien duché de Brabant. Aujourd'hui les provinces - descendant du nord au sud -du Brabant Septentrional(NL), d' Anvers (B), du Brabant Flamand (B), du Brabant Wallon (B) et de la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale (B) sont les successeurs virtuels de ce duché.
La recherche a prouvé que le coeur de la plupart de ces homonymes belges Proost réside dans le 'Land van Turnhout », une seigneurie dans la même principauté. Une très petite partie de ces résidents belges est originaire des Pays-Bas, principalement du nord-ouest de ce même ancien duché de Brabant (Willemstad, Bergen op Zoom, ...).
La partie principale de cette recherche consiste à composer les arbres généalogiques de ces personnes. Additionnellement, par un recherche ADN dans un échantillon des indivividus mâles, je espère de déterminer si ces porteurs du nom Proost partagent le même ancêtre génétique.
