•Way of running the process
• Learning and committing people through experiencing LEARNS methods
2. Amount of engaged people in the process - networking
3. Common view of learning concept – change of ”facilitation language and actions”
• Coach education processes are more coach-centered than earlier
•Active learners, authonomy , ”Brains that does the thinking, does the learning” -idea
• Coach developers are more learning facilitators and not so much lecturers anymore
• common instructions and CD support
1. As TCD to be patient enough – changing a system and coaching/educating behaviours is an adaptive challenge which needs time.
•Remember to give participants time to adapt the same vision that you have. Changing of mindset is really hard.
•Structuring the whole process needs time, it is not just making some content
2. It costs money and worktime. How to convince policy-makers that it is worth it, because you see results years later?
3. To believe in your process even though people are critical
•Listen, involve, discuss, motivate, justify…
•Learning and convincing by experiencing
The process started in May 2017 by defining of learning concept. This work was done by regional coach education managers. Participants also went through LEARNS-workshop, which opened these principles. Following this, six working groups (different special areas) started to think and create materials that were needed.
In September regional key CD’s get together and they defined learning outcomes for coach educations. They also had an opportunity to comment the work of working groups. After learning outcomes were clarified, working groups got more specific instructions concerning the material, for example what kind of learning assignments they could create.
Key CD’s had LEARNS-workshop and GRIP-tool was introduced to them. The first CD education for lower level education was held in March 2018. It was a combination of coach and CD-education, because the start course for coaches was completely new for all. Participants were regional education managers and regional key CD’s. The way of working was the same as they will facilitate in their own educations. All sessions were structured so, that there was start, heart and end part. LEARNS -principles were covered also. LEARNS-workshop was offered to those who had not participated earlier.
Second part of CD education was held in April. CD’s practiced questioning and listening skills, and trained to facilitate both CD-education and coach education’s second course. In both educations participants were asked to give feedback from materials, topics and methods.
Next the trained CD’s begun hosting regional CD courses for those people who facilitate coaching courses in clubs. Now there are 35 trained regional key CD’s and around 150 CD’s in clubs. Regions have already arranged a couple of new coach courses. Feedback from participants and CD’s has been positive and enthusiastic. Now we are working on personalized CD pathways and e-learning modules around general CD skills.
Mikko Tarvainen (Coach developer on club level)
"The best thing was the different methods that were used. I especially liked the GRIP -feedback tool. If I look from CD's perspective, I feel that these new coach educations provides more continuous learning to coaches. I feel that this renewed process will give education a valuable position in the coaching pathway. I am really excited that now I can be part of this system and help coaches to develop themselves."
Mika Riutto (Key Coach Developer and Trainer of CD's)
