Goal of the developing process was to build a new education system for lower level coaches in which their learning links closely to their own coaching environment, create a coach developer program for new coach developers, enhance coach developers skills and involve all coach developers to the education development process. The way of approach was coach/CD-centered and all the methods used were based on self-determination theory and LEARNS-principles. The whole process was done in co-operation with FAF and Sports Institute of Finland and led by authors.
Pekka Clewer (Master of Sport development and management) works as a senior lecturer of sports coaching for Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. Before joining Haaga-Helia in 2019, he worked as a Development director of coaching education for the Football Association of Finland. During his ten years at the FA his main responsibilities included the development of coaches´ and coach educators´ education and talent coaches’ network. He is a current UEFA PRO license holder and he has been a part of the coaching team for the youth national teams in Finland. He is a ICCE trained coach developer and specialized on teaching and competence based qualifications.
Maiju Kokkonen (Master of Sport and Health Sciences), works as Coach Developer for Sports Institute of Finland. She is ICCE trained coach developer and has also completed the training ruquirements for the: ICCE Introduction to Trainer of Coach developers Programme. She has been working before as full time Figure Skating Coach in a club level and Education Manager in Finnish Figure Skating Association. She has worked in many development projects (CD and coach education) in multiple sports. She co-operates and facilitates Finnish Olympic Committees coach developer program. She has been working as coach developer since 1999.
