Housing: I generally support all the proposed commitments, but need to know more before fully committing to sanctioning ALL encampments.

Indigenous Sovereignty: In all my actions and positions on any Reconciliation actions I try to listen to as many diverse Indigenous voices as I can find. I believe it is important to hear the justifiable anger that many are feeling without defensiveness. Finally, my intention is to walk beside and link arms with Indigenous people, not to take control of the process or dictate the outcomes.

Transportation: I propose to use existing municipally-owned land across the region to create a network of dedicated active transportation routes separate from the current roads throughout the Townships. It will take time, but we can lay out a plan to build it and get started.

Other: I believe as leaders we need to be willing to hear hard questions and sometimes anger to bring about the necessary conversations. We cannot afford the luxury of taking offense. While words can cut, we should seek to differentiate between types of anger and their sources. Some anger is coming from pain or injustice. Some comes from fear of losing something. Anger can also come from the fear of disillusionment. We must first seek to understand the source of the anger to have any hope of assuaging it. This does not mean absolving people of responsibility for bullying. Rather it means being slow to take offense, and measured in our response.
