Housing: We're behind in building housing of all types for low, middle and high income earners. Urgency is needed. One of my commitments is to use public land in Waterloo for a new affordable/supportive/co-op housing community with amenities - greenspace, some retail (food, primary care, cafes, bakeries etc) I would take action to begin work on this within the first 100 days in office.
Public Safety: With respect, these shouldn't be presented as binary answers. There should be an option for - More Information Needed. Decriminalization of opioid use is something that municipalities can advocate for but decisions are made by other governments. My knowledge of this issue is too limited at this point in time to answer.
Indigenous Sovereignty: Indigenous Hub - I support the idea, however as a Waterloo resident I'm not clear if there are locations outside of this location are or should be under consideration. I'm not imposing my opinion, again I need to understand the process and consultation with and among local Indigenous People. Do they agree with this idea and approach?
Paid Indigenous positions - is this in addition to the people (i.e. Brian Hill) already in place at the City of Waterloo? More information and clarity is needed for me.
Social Services: Building public washrooms and water stations and refilling stations is already in my platform.
Transportation: I've been active on issues regarding public transit, active transportation and safety for years. Regarding fares, I would like to start with free fares for those under 18. However, open to discussing this.
Other: Much of your focus is on issues that are largely regional in nature. I understand the Mayor serves as a regional councillor and the relationship with the two governments. My platform is primarily focused on issues the local municipal deals with for simplicity of campaigning however many of these other issues are on my radar. Thanks.
