SPOILER WARNING: All campaigns will take place AFTER the final book in Dragonwatch. If you want to avoid spoilers, finish the series!
Where did you come from before you began your adventure? You might've been raised in the wild by fairies, or maybe you grew up on a preserve with your family.
Every background comes with a short description and one perk, two areas of study, and one drawback. Choose wisely!
Perk: Knowledge of Home Preserve Layout, Dangers, and Locations of Allies.
Areas of Study: Preserve History, Magical Treaties
Drawback: Targeted. Enemies will try to kidnap you for your secrets.
Your family works on or runs a magical preserve. Growing up visiting them or living with them has given you a unique awareness of the magical world and appreciation for magical creatures.
Or, if you are a magical creature, you were raised normally on the preserve amongst your people.
Perk: You do not need the milk to see clearly.
Areas of Study: Area related to adopted family, Nature
Drawback: Chosen by the DM as it fits your situation. (Family quirks, wild upbringing, i.e. Raxtus was raised by fairies, making him smaller than all other dragons as a result. You'd have a similar quirk.)
You were adopted by magical creatures different from you. This gives you a unique upbringing, providing you with expertise on your family and a deeper connection to the magical world.
Perk: Family privilege. You can summon aid, get info, get money, etc.
Areas of Study: Music, Factions.
Drawback: Disadvantage on Nature rolls.
You were raised by some kind of earthly or magical nobility. You were raised with good manners, political advantages, and an insight into the secrets of this world.
Perk: You do not need the milk to see clearly. (If you are playing a race that ordinarily would not need the milk (NOT your class) then instead you are able to detect magical presences.
Areas of Study: Two of choice that are NOT Spells & Curses.
Drawback: The issues of the curse. Work it out with your DM. If you choose to forfeit the added areas of study, we can make the curse less dramatic in return.
You were either an ordinary magical creature or a normal person unacquainted with magic when you found yourself cursed. You joined the deeper magical world in an attempt to find a cure for your predicament.
Perk: Choose a starting Magic Artifact.
Areas of Study: Your branch of magic, +1 of choice.
Drawback: Mentor's Task- The DM will give you an extra quest set up by your mentor that may be difficult.
You discovered a love for a specific area of magic and found a mentor to teach you. You have a head-start in your area of study. You may be a human who discovered magic or a magical creature honing their skills.
Perk: Specific starting item or other perk.
Area of Study: What is applicable to your new background.
Drawback: Disadvantage on Specific Rolls.
Do you have an idea for a background that is not available here? Suggest a background name, a specific starting perk, your areas of study, and a disadvantaged stat with the DM and we can work something out for you.
