Language Week was a meaningful event where all the language clubs worked together to celebrate different cultures and languages. As a leader of the Korean Club, I had the opportunity to teach Grade 2 students how to write their names in Korean and play ddakji—a traditional Korean game. It was a fun and engaging experience, but it also required patience and creativity to make sure the younger students understood and enjoyed the activities.
At first, I was nervous about teaching younger students because I wasn’t sure how to explain things in a way that would keep them interested. However, as the activity went on, I realized that using simple explanations, visual demonstrations, and encouragement helped them stay engaged. Seeing their excitement when they successfully wrote their names or made their ddakji was very rewarding. This experience helped me recognize my strengths in communication and adaptability, as well as areas where I could improve, such as keeping instructions clear and structured.
One challenge we faced was keeping the students focused, especially when folding ddakji, which required careful steps. Some students found it difficult and got frustrated, so we had to find ways to make the process easier by demonstrating slowly and helping them individually. Through this, I developed better problem-solving and leadership skills, as I had to adjust my teaching style based on how the students responded.
Another important lesson I learned was the value of teamwork and collaboration. Organizing this event required effort from all the language clubs, and in the Korean Club, we worked together to prepare materials and plan how to teach the students. Seeing everyone contribute their ideas and support each other made me appreciate the importance of working as a team to create a successful event.
