During International Day, the Korean Club and the Greenhawks Club prepared booths to contribute to the event. For the Korean Club, we decided to make and sell Hwachae, a traditional Korean fruit punch. We chose Hwachae because it is a refreshing beverage that represents Korean culture and is perfect for hot weather. The preparation involved slicing various fruits, mixing them with Sprite, and ensuring everything was ready for the event. This choice was practical as well, given that it didn't take long to prepare, allowing for a high rotation rate of servings.
In the Greenhawks Club, we focused on selling eco-friendly products. We chose the Luffa sponge because it can be used as a natural scrubber, promoting sustainable living. I bought a long Luffa sponge, cut it into usable sizes, and prepared them for sale. The Luffa sponges were especially popular with parents and teachers, while students showed interest in the other eco-friendly items available at our booth. This approach allowed us to highlight the importance of environmentally friendly products.
I felt a mix of excitement and satisfaction throughout the preparation of both booths. Initially, I was enthusiastic about sharing Korean culture through Hwachae and promoting eco-friendly products with the Luffa sponges. The preparation phase was somewhat stressful as I wanted everything to be ready on time. However, the positive feedback from people who enjoyed the Hwachae and appreciated the eco-friendly products made the effort worthwhile.
Through this experience, I discovered several valuable insights about teamwork, cultural representation, and event planning. I learned how crucial effective communication and coordination are when working in a group. This raised questions about how to improve these skills in future projects.
1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Organizing the terrarium workshop in the Greenhawks Club was an exciting and rewarding experience. The goal was to introduce students to the concept of miniature ecosystems while encouraging creativity and environmental awareness. During the workshop, we guided participants in selecting materials such as soil, rocks, moss, and small plants to design their own terrariums. Seeing everyone engaged and excited about building their own mini-ecosystem made me feel proud of the event’s success.
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that everyone had the right materials and understood the layering process to create a self-sustaining terrarium. At first, some students found it difficult to arrange the plants properly or balance moisture levels, but as we provided tips and demonstrations, they became more confident in their designs. This experience helped me develop my communication and leadership skills, as I had to explain the steps clearly and assist others when they needed help.
Through this workshop, I also realized how small actions, like creating a terrarium, can promote environmental responsibility in a fun and engaging way. It made me think about how other hands-on activities could inspire people to care for nature. In the future, I would love to organize more workshops focused on sustainability and green initiatives, which help more students connect with the environment in a creative way.
