LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge that this learning resource was created by students who reside on the traditional and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Tsleil-Waututh, Sylix, and Gabrielino-Tongva people. As settlers, we are grateful to participate in work, education, and leisure on these lands, and are committed to working toward reconciliation.
INTRODUCTION
This website is a learning resource directed at educators who teach New Media to teens and young adults. We created this resource through first reviewing the current British Columbia English Language Arts Curriculum on New Media for Grade 12. We then edited and revised the curriculum by jamming it with the elements we saw were missing.
We focused on the following four key areas:
Our jammed curriculum leverages the theory and practice of makerspaces by providing students with hands-on, collaborative learning experiences to explore, create, and problem-solve using various analogue and digital tools and materials. We aim to empower students to express their opinions with evidence and achieve purpose by incorporating a holistic critical media education and promoting an inclusive learning environment.
NAVIGATION
Welcome to the front page of our learning resource. Below, you will find an indexed navigational map of the website. There are 12 pages categorized into three sections: What It’s All About, Makerspace Toolkits, and Resources, References & Us.
What It’s All About provides key overarching information about this resource, the theory behind it, exactly how we jammed the BC Curriculum on New Media for Grade 12, and our specific direction.
Each page in the Makerspace Toolkits section dives deeper into specific topics we explore in relation to the jammed curriculum.
Finally, the Resources, References & Us section includes tools to quickly access and reference some of the information across the site, and provides more information about us: the authors, and creators of this space.
Throughout the website, and for easy access, you will also find each of these links on the Navigation Bar at the top of the page.
