Various parts of the brain are involved in the process, leading to neural development that can store, engage, and recall learned events. The first step in organizing learning is to ensure that attention is being focused on what is important so that the information can be processesed in the working memory.
Barriers to attention include ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Attention deficits contribute to common learning disorders and impact life outcomes in education, employment, and mental health. Research continues to explore the connection between these barriers and early childhood circumstances. Early family support and prevention is key. (Lee & Juan, 2013).
Team Activity: Using the shared document below, let's build a list of our favorite attention focusing techniques, possible resources listed below.
Solo Activity: Reference the team list above and categorize the items (for improvised retention). We can identify possible categories on the shared document below (at the bottom of the document).

A 2013 US study outlines e-textbooks add significantly to reading time and contribute to multi-tasking, which is an obvious learning distraction. Print resources are recommended for focusing attention reducing learning time. (Queensland Brain Institute, n.d.)
