The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is a certificate that recognises the successful completion of secondary education in a Victorian school. It is a qualification that is recognised world-wide.
Also VCE becomes the entrance examination to further study at University, Technical and Further Education (TAFE), and to some, entrance to workforce. On completion of the VCE exam each student receives an ATAR score (Australia wide percentile ranking) which is used by the universities to offer positions to applicants in various tertiary courses. Each year Australian universities announce the minimum ATAR required for the selection to different degree courses. Normally, courses that are of high demand (e.g. Medicine and Engineering related double degree courses) require high ATAR scores usually above 95 and UCAT. The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is the central office that administers the application and offer process for places in tertiary courses at Victorian universities.
