The Victorian Government has plans to open two new selective entry schools in 2010 in Berwick and Wyndham Vale. This is a welcoming news for high achieving students and parents. It is expected that each of the new selective schools will enrol around 200 Year 9 students in 2010. It is important to note that the selection to these schools (all four) will be administered through a common entrance examination. For 2010 entry, this examination is expected to take place in June 2009. Year 8 students in 2009 are eligible sit for this competitive examination. Both of the new schools are going to be co-educational schools.
The current intake to selective schools from government and non government schools will rise from 3% to 5%, i.e. the 3% rule will be replaced by a 5% rule.
