I am Diane Conmy, a now retired elementary school teacher from Lincoln School in Oak Park, Illinois. Lincoln is where my children spent their elementary years. My daughter, Erica Reith was killed at age 19 and in my grief, it became my goal to help kids in need from Lincoln School. I could help kids have what they needed for success, whether that be supplies, clothing, food, sports, or tutors. We started a fund; The Erica Reith Fund, to do this work in Erica’s name. Eighteen years later the work continues though is reaching out to other places in which to support children. My fellow teacher, Matt Kuntz brought Eri’s name to his brother, John, who wanted to bring her energy along with him on his quest to help teach children the joyful benefits from outdoor adventure. Erica loved best her times on snowboards, skis, boats, and snowmobiles. She loved adventure. And so we celebrate this year’s paddle and the joined energy that takes John down the river.
