Student Experiences
Sports Rehabilitation
The Erasmus I went on involved job shadowing in La Laguna, Tenerife. Three of us from the Sports Rehab course went together. We were taken on a tour of the school which was our host organisation and shown the sports facilities. We were also very lucky to get a tour of the CD Tenerife Medical department and speak with the physio which was very relevant to our sports rehab course.
For our work experience we were placed San Benito Sports Centre which has amazing facilities including three studios, gym floor and pool. I had the opportunity to see a number of different trainers' classes and saw a variety of different teaching styles. I was also able to take part in classes I have never tried before such as Tai Chi, Aqua Fitness and Pilates. The classes were very well run, and it was an invaluable learning experience. All the trainers were very kind and accommodating.
When we were not working, we had some free time to explore the area. La Laguna is a beautiful area and very easy to get around. We were able to use the bus to visit Santa Cruz where we went to the botanical gardens and Puerto de la Cruz. The highlight by far was visiting the National Park where Mount Teide is located. Hector, our host very kindly took us on a tour of the area and explained about the culture and history. We went up on a cable car and saw spectacular views of the Island. We also got to try many of the local cuisines such as Canarian potatoes.
