We did a groupwork and noticed the following.
There are a lot of stereotypes about some sports that are considered only for female or only for male, like dance for girls and football for boys. Now there are different teams for boys and girl, but we think you should have the possibility to be in a mixed teams. Especially on high level, for example world championships, sportsmen are more watched and more popular than sportswomen. That could be one of the reasons why man athletes usually get paid more than women.
Role change dance 11.12.2018
Experience from the dance demo: During dance workshop has been difficult to change roles more than once. This activity helped us to understand that there are no differences between men and women in these types of sports because you can change your role independently by your gender and that is the reason why this types of activities promote gender equality
We learned that there are some differences between genders in media world. Internationally less than 13% stories concentrate on women and in Finalnd 29%. Even if male journalists are less than female journalist in italian media like newspaper the signatures, faces and voices are mostly male. Media has a lot of power and can even change the world. All genders aren’t being represented equally in the Finnish media.
12.12.2018 We visited the largest mediahouse in Finland.
Helsingin Sanomat is the most followed newspaper in Finland and most of the Northern European countries. We went in the general headquarters and we listened to a speaker that told us something about gender equality in media. We learnt that now a days journalist interview more male than female and so for the future women will have to speak up their voice to change their consideration in the world. For example in Helsingin Sanomat male writer are more popular than female writer nevertheless girls read more news than boys and here, in Finland, women get more bad comments than men.
Italian data show a strong majority of male authors and photos. All the main four Italian news outlets featured more male authors and published more male pictures on each of the days analysed. Only 4% of the photographs in La Repubblica, one of the most read newspaper in Italy, were of women, while the remaining were of men. A really similar situation is about the other important newspapers or digital outlets.
We visited to Finland's largest media house, Sanomedia. 12.12.2018.
We watched the film The Danish Girl (2015). It is biographical romantic drama film directed by Tom Hooper and based on the 2000 novel of the same name by David Ebershoff, and loosely inspired by the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener.
The film is a very emotional movie and at the end we felt so sad and miserable because, according to us, everyone must have the chance to be whoever wants to be and mustn’t be judged. In the movie Lili died and Gerda lost his husband twice and the movie was confusing but it opened eyes. Before gender rules were strict and for example homosexuals and transgender people weren’t accepted. To make transgender people feel more equal we should be more accepting, openminded and treat them like they want to be treated. In the movie men couldn’t and women had to wear dresses and make-up and also women had to act in a specific way. Nowadays there are still some gender stereotypes for example women stay home and take care of kids, women and men have their own roles and they are expected to act like
According to us, to make transgender people feel more equal, there should be unisex toilets, this topic should be talked more. For us, moreover, it should be more thought that a person mustn’t be judged for the gender. In Italy a transgender that became famous is Vladimir Luxuria and in Finland Niko Nyman that is a make-up artist.
