The results of the initial survey contacted in Germany. The survey was carried out in January 2019.
Summary of the Together Surveys: Germany
Parents:
· Eleven parents were asked. 63% were female.
· The majority knows what gender means and most of them define gender equality as all genders having the same opportunities, resources and rights.
· According to the parents asked the majority of the teachers are female.
· Only 18.2% think that people assume things based on one’s gender (mostly related to the topic of jobs).
· 20% of the females feel pressured about their appearance. None of the males feels pressured.
· Most parents think that gender did not play a role when their children chose their sport or hobby.
· 40% feel that the country is ready to accept gender equality. Half of the parents asked say that maybe the country is ready to accept it.
· 80% of the parents asked say that the women in the family do most of the work.
Teachers:
· 51 teachers were asked. 66.7% were female. 37.3% of them were between 41and 50, 27.5% were between 30 and 40, 19.6% under 30 and 15.7% between 51 and 60.
· 98% of the teachers know what gender means and 90.2% define gender equality as all genders having the same opportunities, resources and rights.
· Most teachers say that they have more female than male colleagues.
· Most teachers (94%) say that their school is doing enough to support gender equality. One teacher says that it is easier for girls to achieve better and boys have different needs in class.
· Just over half of the teachers say that they do not treat male students differently to females. 41.2% admit that they maybe treat them differently.
· 58.3% say that there is a pattern in the pupils’ grades that reveals a difference between males and females.
· More than half of the teachers (52.9%) claim that they have already thought of being treated differently based on their gender on their workplace.
· Just over half of the teachers asked (52.9%) say that the country is ready to accept gender equality. 41.2% says that maybe the country is ready to accept it.
Students:
· 87 students were asked. 67.8% of them were female.
· 97.7% of the students say they know what gender means. 73.3% define gender equality as all genders having the same opportunities, resources and rights. 19.8% say that it means that both genders are equal.
· 57.5% of the students say that half of their teachers are female and half are male.
· Most of the students (74.7%) say that people at school assume things about students based on their gender. They gave examples like “boys are assumed to be stronger”, “boys get better/worse grades in PE lessons” or that “boys are asked to carry things”.
· 42.4% of the females feel pressured about their appearance. 27.3% of the male students feel pressured.
· Most students (80%) say that gender did not play a role when they chose their hobbies.
· Most students (63%) say that their country is ready to accept gender equality.
· More than half of the students (60.7%) say that the women in the family do most of the work.
· The majority of the students asked (75%) say that there are no different rules for different genders in their family.
