Green Club at ZŠ Bílá: Waste sorting for a more sustainable school
In accordance with the Erasmus+ program, a new school project – Green Club – has been actively engaged in waste sorting since February of this year. This club is made up of a group of students who decided to get involved in solving the waste problem at school and promote ecological behavior among their classmates. The club is led by two 8th grade students and two 9th grade students. They use the structure of the school parliament to disseminate information in order to reach as many students as possible.
The beginning of the changes:
The project began with a detailed analysis of the current waste sorting system at the second level of the school. We found that most classes only have two waste bins for mixed waste and the amount of waste in them was minimal. Our first step was to change one of the trash cans into a container for plastic and beverage cartons. At the same time, we created paper collection boxes that we made from empty boxes from the school cafeteria.
Innovation in practice:
Another improvement was the intention to sort beverage cans. For this purpose, we used 10-liter cans of cabbage from the school cafeteria. These cans were placed in new mixed waste containers for classes that did not have enough containers. We are still waiting for more cans of cabbage.
Competition and motivation:
The school is currently running a competition for the most beautiful labels for waste bins. Some of the designs that we are already starting to use are attached below. This competition not only supports students' creativity, but also increases their awareness of environmental issues.
Challenges and plans for the future:
There are still many challenges ahead of us - the change in waste sorting must be accepted not only by students, but also by school cleaners, who must adopt the new waste treatment into their daily routine.
We consider our solution to be economical and sustainable because we use waste paper boxes and cans from the school cafeteria. This approach allows us to save resources and at the same time contribute to environmental protection.
Keep your fingers crossed!
We are confident that our efforts will contribute to a more responsible and ecological environment at our school. We hope that everything goes according to plan and that our Green Club will continue to be an inspiration to others.
