Real world learning
Real World Learning Network is a consortium of outdoor learning providers across Europe. The goal is to explore and share successful approaches to outdoor learning that increase action for sustainable development. We believe that outdoor learning offers one of the best approaches for young people to engage with the world around them and provides a stimulating context to explore how we can all contribute to a more sustainable present and future.
The network has been established by seven partners. CŠOD - Centra for School and Outdoor Education is one of the founding members of the network.

ECO-SCHOOL. Ecology education course for teachers and educators
Nobody can say that a school is not ecological. Maybe buildings and working environments are not yet built with the new "ecological and environmental friendly" criteria and many schools are still in old places, not surrounded by any green spaces. There are schools in big cities, in Capitals of Europe, in medium cities, in small towns, in rural areas. What does it mean to be an ecological person in general? Does it mean to know scientifically what happens between nature and human beings, what is happening in the world nowadays and how not to contribute with our lifestyles to destroy the environment where we are living? Just these questions need a long debate to be answered and, at the base of every debate, there's still something we continue to underestimate: the need for more education. Which we can call "ecology", "environmental education", "education to sustainable education".

Sustainable schools
As a growing trend, Eco-Schools give young people the opportunity to get involved in their environment by giving them the opportunity to safeguard it. There is a progression from the classroom to the school, then to the whole community. These young people feel proud of themselves for being able to influence the environmental policies of their schools, leading them towards certification and the distinction of being awarded a Green Flag through the use of this program. Participating in the Eco-Schools program is a great opportunity for schools to begin a long-term process of environmental improvement while exerting a beneficial influence on the lives of students, their families, teachers and local authorities.
Learning Outcomes:
• Enhance skills to use various innovative teaching methods and techniques that are learner-centred, encourage solving of meaningful real-world tasks and develop transversal competencies.

Outdoor school is the main activity of the Center for School and Outdoor Education (Centro šolskih in obšolskih dejavnosti – CŠOD). The program is a complement to the school curriculum. It includes students from all classes of primary and secondary schools.
What the children in the past used to earn while playing in the meadow and in the forest must now be carefully planned and systematically approached to the children in the outdoor school.
CŠOD centers are spread all over Slovenia, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, allowing children to get to know various parts of Slovenia.
Schools cooperate with CŠOD because:
CŠOD cooperates with the schools in the choice, organization and execution of the program;
CŠOD teachers who participate in conducting the outdoor school do not need to charge extra;
CŠOD teachers know well the parts where the activities take place;
CŠOD teachers have all the necessary knowledge to carry out special activities; all CŠOD teachers are qualified to give first aid; the centers are organized according to rules for the stay of students and young people;
there is plenty of equipment (bikes, boats, alpine and cross-country skis, bows, caving equipment, climbing equipment, raincoats) that schools can use for free.
The activities take place in the best classroom in the world: in nature.
They are oriented to a healthy way of life.
As a result of the Eco-Schools program, a school's environmental footprint is reduced, costs are reduced, and a more responsible and sustainable school environment is established.
Workshops, insight conversations, and brief theoretical inputs will teach you new teaching practices and related theory. Interactive and collaborative techniques are used in almost all approaches. The group is seen as a place where ideas can be shared, problems solved, and knowledge gained. In this course, you will learn how to execute the Eco-Schools environmental education curriculum. Once you return to your schools, you will be ready to share your knowledge of environmental issues with your students.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will gain the ability to:
- Know the method of environmental education of the Eco school.
- Make children reflect on the environmental consequences of their actions.
- Learning environments that encourage curiosity and learning should be created and used.
- Learn that environmental education can be taught more effectively if students work together.
- Teach environmental science while inspiring children to take an active role in their community.
- Incorporate new environmental education techniques in your school.

Teachers and new generations are already environmental friendly especially from 2019 and 2020 when the influence of Greta Thunberg has shaken all our conscious, in the bad and in the good, calling us to the fact that - even though the debate between scientists, ecologists and other stakeholders - is still not clear to whom we have to believe - each one of us can do something daily to save the planet. What is true is that we don't have a planet B. Schools are the first place where kids are educated to be good citizens in the future and to realise their dreams in life. The idea of this course is very recent (2020) and it's transversal for purpose. Ecology, environmental friendly, recycling and reusing, the sustainable development goals 2030, EU Climate Action...these are all key topics under the "ECO-SCHOOL" course.
It's not true that just science or geography teachers are the ones in charge to teach ecology. All teachers, from language teachers to subject teachers, and especially School Directors, are in charge to teach "more ecologically" or introduce the "green transversal subject" into their teaching method and teaching contents.
This course is based on sharing and discovering together among educators and teachers, creating a common base of understanding, knowledge and terms in order to change the classical methodology used at school, more formal and static, and making it more outdoor, non formal and innovative.
The topic of ecology enters in each subject through concrete new lesson plans which cross the actual trendy methods used among European teachers and is also foreseen the use of technologies as a tool to create a bridge between a new and original contact with nature and the reality of a digital life which is part of us already.
