OUR COMMON FUTURE”
is an Erasmus+ KA229 School Exchange Partnerships Project that covers grant support in the field of education, youth, and sports of the European
Union. The project was implemented by five schools from Türkiye, France, Greece, Hungary, and Romania between the years September 2020-June 2023.
Through this project, it has been aimed to contribute to 2030 agenda of ‘Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG)’ and EU 2050 Green Deal as much as one can by raising environmental awareness on the youth with the hope and guarantee of our future.
“Sustainable development” was defined as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” It is obvious that in order to protect the environment and to ensure its sustainability, we muststop destroying the world with our ruthless acts and admit that human is not the masterof nature but a part of it.
With the understanding of ‘There is no other world,’ a motto has been adopted that ‘It is our COMMON problem of our COMMON world threatening OUR COMMON FUTURE.’ As a result, the saying “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it” by R.Swan has motivated us to take action and responsibility locally and globally.
The first thing to do was to raise awareness on pupils to achieve "the common good." Fromthis view, the concept of sustainability in this project has been considered as a philosophy of life. Teaching pupils to see themselves as an integral part of the ecosystem, to reduce consumerism, to live life simpler and in harmony with nature, to gain EU citizenship values and create a sense of universal responsibility has been the main goal.
It has also been aimed to merge the principles and practices of sustainable development
into all aspects of education and learning, and support the behavioural changes within the scope of active learning process-in the frame of ‘HANDS-ON activities.’
As a result of Innovative learning and constructive approach, the pupils had the opportunity to learn by doing and living. It has been ensured to contribute to the achievement of the UN 2030 agenda-SDG, which would also carry us to EU Green Deal Strategy for 2050 as much as one can.
Providing a better and more sustainable future for all has been the main target
of the project. Within the scope of this project, throughout the 5 LTT (Learning Teaching Training) Activities that took place in each partner school, the concept of ‘
Sustainable Environment’ was addressed under the titles of;
Good Agricultural Practices; Respecting Nature (1st LTTA in Türkiye)
Correct Chemical Use; Respecting Oceans (2nd LTTA in France)
Renewable Energy; Energy Efficiency and Saving (3rd LTTA in Greece)
3Rs: Recycling, Reducing, Reusing (4th LTTA in Romania)
Ecological Literacy-Water Literacy, Sustainable use of natural resources
(5th LTTA in Hungary).
In Conclusion, when environmental problems that threaten our future are considered,
protection of the environment and ensuring its sustainability is among the urgent actions
to be taken. Thus, people need to be made aware of the importance of environmental values.
Making this awareness to the youth will be an important step for safer tomorrows.
Because tomorrow will be entrusted to today's children .
