e-portfolios for learning & development

What's your purpose?

E-portfolios showcase you - who you are and what you're capable of. I like to think of e-portfolios as a space to connect with others, share information and ideas, and showcase your competencies. You may have a different purpose.

Speaking of purpose... you really need to start there.

Typically, there are 4 purposes for creating an e-portfolio: supporting your job search, completing academic assignments, career advancement, or admission to a grad program: 

• • Job Search - for employers when you're seeking employment or a new position (e.g., a promotion)

  • Academic - for in-course use

  • Career - for promotion processes or general career development & advancement

  • Admission - for admission into a graduate or post-graduate program

Wait... there's more.

Those are great starting points for purposes. For me, e-portfolios have truly been about professional development and learning Out loud, my take on lifelong learning.

• • Professional Development - to explore and expand my professional skills & knowledge and experiment with digital media - also to curate and share examples of great content (e.g., on the resources page)

  • Learning Out Loud  (LOL) - part of my lifelong learning approach - a way to (publicly) share my thoughts and resources (see my TEDx talk about LOL or blog post)
