Social studies in my classroom helps students connect their lives to their communities and the wider world. I use visuals, artifacts, music, and storytelling to bring history and culture to life, incorporating culturally relevant materials that reflect and celebrate my students’ identities.
Through collaborative writing projects, discussions, and presentations, students build deeper understanding while developing critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. My goal is to foster curiosity, empathy, and a strong sense of belonging—preparing students to become thoughtful, engaged members of their communities.
I intentionally weave community building and social-emotional learning (SEL) into the fabric of my classroom. Through daily routines like morning meetings, collaborative projects, and reflective conversations, students learn to recognize their emotions, practice empathy, and build strong, respectful relationships. I create a classroom culture where every student feels seen, heard, and valued, knowing that a sense of belonging is essential for academic and personal growth.
