Using manipulatives to learn shapes
At the start of the year, I help shift students’ mindsets by introducing the acronym M.A.T.H.—Mistakes Allow Thinking to Happen to build confidence and curiosity. I integrate math into all aspects of our day, including the use of STEM Bins for hands-on problem-solving and exploration. My instruction follows the TESS model with warm-ups, direct instruction, guided and independent practice, and exit tickets focused on error analysis and written reasoning. I differentiate through small-group instruction, manipulatives, and multiple strategies, and I’m passionate about helping students connect math to their everyday lives.
