Let me be your tour guide and share some of Panama's rich culture.

Churches. I took my family to visit the Golden Altar Church (I grew up attending church here). Legend has it that when the English pirate Henry Morgan attacked the city, the priests painted the Golden Altar black to hide the gold from the pirates. While there you can see an impressive nativity scene.

Shopping experience. Local markets will have plenty of artisans selling their handmade products. Here your Spanish skills will come into play as you negotiate a good price for the piece you want to buy. One of my favorite art pieces to collect are tagua carvings made from an ivory nut palm.

Traditional music and dance. Immerse yourself into the sounds and dances of Panama. Experience a very unique Panamanian cultural event called "la saloma panameña". ¿Qué es una saloma?" Es una emisión vocal o gutural propia de los campesinos del interior de Panamá.

Indian Tribes in Panama

• Embera Indians. Take a short boat ride to visit the Ella Puru village. While there you can walk through their village and learn about medicinal plants of the jungle by one of their tribesmen and you will get to see their traditional tribal dances. You can purchase some arts and crafts that are handmade such as tagua carvings which are a financial blessing for their beautiful families.
