INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE TECHNIQUES
Creative Techniques (CRETECH) focuses on experimental textile exploration and pushing material boundaries beyond traditional garment construction. This subject encourages us to manipulate fabrics and unconventional materials through hands-on techniques to create sculptural and expressive outcomes.
For this project, we were required to design and construct a headpiece using various textile manipulation methods such as slashing, burning, and weaving. We were also encouraged to incorporate unconventional materials, including wire, old book pages, socks, and other found objects. The aim was to challenge our understanding of texture, structure, and materiality, transforming everyday items into wearable art. This project emphasised creativity, risk-taking, and innovation through surface and structural experimentation.
HEADPIECE WRITE UP
This headpiece holds a special significance for me, as it symbolizes my father’s deep-rooted traditional values. His commitment to upholding cultural practices and honoring our heritage has profoundly influenced my appreciation for tradition and craftsmanship. Just as the headpiece embodies the splendor of Chinese royalty, it also represents my father's steadfast dedication to preserving our cultural legacy. In this way, the headpiece is not only a reflection of historical grandeur but also a personal homage to the values and traditions that my father has imparted to me.
