Subject Description:
This Industry Studio Project (ISP) was done in collaboration with Yellow Ribbon Singapore under their Add Cause initiative, which supports the reintegration of ex-offenders and advocates for second chances. We designed costumes for the Yellow Ribbon Fund Hope Bears using fabric from their previous weaving project, with at least 75% of each outfit made from these recycled blankets. Created by students from Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, the dressed bears were later auctioned at the Yellow Ribbon CARE Network Gala Dinner 2025 to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
Concept Moodboard (Rendered by me)
The concept looks at the opposing symbolism of smoke and crystals as symbols of the mental battle between fear and hope for the future. Smoke, mysterious and ever-changing, portrays the anxiety and uncertainty that obscures one's path. Its formless nature evokes fear of the unknown, as clarity fades and direction becomes uncertain. On the other hand, crystals represent hope because of their strength, structure, and purity. In the midst of uncertainty, their prominent edges and light-reflecting surfaces represent periods of development, healing, and clarity. In contrast, smoke and crystal represent disturbances and confusion, as well as peace, concentration, and change. This contrast represents the emotional journey of facing the unknown while gaining inner strength and belief for a brighter, clearer future.
