Draping 2 focuses on advanced draping techniques, with an emphasis on form, structure, and sustainable design approaches such as zero waste. Zero waste design is a method of pattern-making that eliminates fabric wastage by using the entire textile within the garment construction, ensuring that no excess material is discarded.
For this project, we were required to drape a corset and integrate it seamlessly into a zero waste gown. I chose to create a Decora-style gown, embracing playful layering, bold details, and expressive volume. The zero waste element of my design was incorporated into the skirt’s lining, where the pattern was carefully planned to utilise the full fabric without offcuts. While the gown does not visibly appear to be zero waste on the surface, its sustainable construction is embedded within the internal structure of the garment.
