Plans for Today:
In my office today if you want to stop by and talk about your writing so far. I did offer comments on your Reading Responses today and made comments to let you know if you are not caught up on other assignments. My office hours are from 3-4:30, but I will be in the office right after class today as well (at 2) if you want to come earlier.
Warm up:
Take a few minutes and write down what you think this ACRL means. Also, be specific if you have any confusions about what this ACRL means.
Group up, share, discuss:
In groups of three you will discuss this ACRL concept. One speaker, one note-taker, one researcher.
Examine the following quotes and break them down into simpler terms to describe what they mean. Use personal examples or examples you can think of from media, school, books, etc.
We will discuss Naming What We Know 3.0 “Writing Enacts and creates Identities and Ideologies” and 3.2 “Writers’ Histories, processes, and Identities Vary” over Wednesday and Friday's classes depending on how much time they take to discuss. Review these concepts before class and make sure you have started working on CT_3.
Class Plans for Today:
Discussion:
GROUP A:
Write what you think it means that writing enacts and creates identities and ideologies. Use the following quotes to explain.
GROUP B:
In threshold concept 3.2, “Writers’ histories, processes, and identities vary”, Yancey (2016) states the following:
“each writer begins a lifelong process of balancing individual perspectives and processes with the opportunities, demands, constraints, and genres of specific rhetorical situations and contexts of the larger culture. The ways in which individual writers do this, however, are influenced by their individual histories, processes, and identities” (p. 52)
Reading Response Examples ...If time permits...
When looking at these reading responses, let's think about the following:
Because of Author's Day, they need our classrooms for demo sessions. This means WE WILL NOT BE MEETING FACE-TO-FACE. However, what I want you to do in place of class time will be to get started on your second Research Journal Assignment. Before Friday I will post examples of previous RJ's that did a very good job following the template and will send an email asking you to look over these examples and to start working on your RJ_2 following this template.
I will be in my office during our regular class time (I'll only be out of the office from about 10-11:30) so stop by if you would like help with this assignment.
No face-to-face class today.
Instead, look at Blackboard under "Writing Examples" and click on the link "RJ Examples." Look over the examples and use them as motivation for your own Research Journal.
Make sure you finish the homework due this Sunday according to the schedule.
