Plans for Today:
INTRODUCTIONS:
Below are 25 questions. You may use a notebook or a word document to fill out this information. Your mission is to find FOUR people who meet one of the following questions. Place their name into the first blank and then add onto the sentence. Basically, to complete this you cannot simply find people and put a name in the blank. You must add to the information that is already given to you — thus actually meeting people:

Brief run-down...
Plans for today:
*Reminder, when uploading documents onto your google drive account, make sure to create a word document within google drive rather than uploading your document file, that way we can use the comment feature. It's fine that some of you did that for your introductory letters, but keep in mind for the next assignments.*
Warm Up:
You have 10 minutes to complete the following prompt (Save the Warm Up in your Google Drive folder and title “Warmup_Jan16”):
Briefly summarize the paragraphs you read from the preface using your own words. Then using examples and evidence from the text try defining what you think a “threshold concept” is and why you think it is important for writers to understand this terms before reading the rest of Naming What We Know. Furthermore why is this term important for us to know and understand as readers and writers?
Group up, share, and discuss:
You will get into groups composed of one note-taker, one speaker (to present to class), and one researcher (this individual will the primary person responsible for finding important passages).
How did the reading go for your group? Share what you wrote in your Warm Up. Ask yourselves the following:
Questions Concerning the Syllabus/Assignments:
Group up and discuss any questions, or concerns, you have about the syllabus or the assignments. Talk to one another about the syllabus, the requirements of this class, the assignments that we will be doing. If you have any questions that no one can answer, then write them down and save them for discussion with the entire class. You have about 5-10 minutes.
Plans for today:
Group up, share, and discuss:
You will get into groups composed of one Note-taker, one speaker (to present to class), and one researcher (this individual will the primary person responsible for finding important passages).
Why do Elizabeth Wardle and Linda Adler-Kassner believe that the metaconcept “Writing is an activity and a subject of study” is a troublesome idea? Do you agree or disagree with their argument? Why or why not? (Support your answers with evidence form your own personal experience and/or from the text).
Since we have no warm up today, make sure the note-taker puts all of your names on the document.
Group up, share, and discuss:
In the same groups, look through the letters my class wrote on how to succeed in my course. Choose one letter to discuss and share with the class.
No class Monday (Campus closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day).
Make sure your letters are in Google Drive so I can see them. I'll be looking over them this weekend.
Note: Everything I assign for you to write is due the following week (see schedule). However, I do want you to come to class with a substantial draft so that we can discuss it and work on it. All readings are due by the class for which they are assigned.
