Plans for today:
Announcement
I won't have office hours today. If you need to contact me, please email me so we can set up an appointment!
Group up, Share, and Discuss:
In groups of three, one person takes notes. The second person will be in charge of finding quotes, and the third person will be in charge of speaking to the rest of the class about what you found. MAKE SURE YOU USE BOTH QUOTES AND PERSONAL EXAMPLES TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS AS YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE BOTH. There are some really good quotes in these readings and rather than me giving them to you, I'd like you to find them and share them with the class.
***If you finish with your concept before the other group finishes, move on and answer the questions in the second concept. If you are answering these questions in-depth with quotes and examples, you shouldn't have much time for the second concept. Keep discussion on your topic.***
GROUP A:
2.5, “Writing is performative”
GROUP B:
2.6, “Texts get their meaning from other texts”
LAST QUESTION FOR BOTH GROUPS: How do these two concepts connect?
If time permits... Discussion on the connection to your genre projects.
Today we will not be holding our regular class as you will be using today to present your symposium projects during the time you signed up for with your group.
Today's class will not meet face to face.
Instead, I will have you write a half page response (about two paragraphs, single spaced) to Lisa Bickmore’s “35 GENRE in the WILD: Understanding Genre Within Rhetorical (Eco)systems”.
Additionally, look over the assignment descriptions for the Final Portfolio. We will talk about this in-depth next week. If you have any questions take note of them (or email me). We will talk about this in class:
Try not to let these overwhelm you. We've looked at examples in class (the magazines, websites, social media pages, etc.) and we will be spending next week working on them in class so that I can answer any questions you might have.
