Reminders

If you are creating social media pages, make sure to share the link and/or the name of your page so I can find you. I will start looking through them to make sure I can access them and we don’t wait until I’m grading your final portfolio to come across issues of access.
Make sure your pages are public.

Discussion

Taczak points out that reflection can be troublesome for 5 different reasons on page 79. Do you agree with these reasons? Did you ever think this way? How do you respond to these ideas about reflection?:

“writers believe reflection needs to happen after the fact rather than seeing it as a critical, rhetorical act within the process”
“writers think reflection happens naturally and without prompting”
“writers think reflection only means considering how they feel about their writing
“some writers may never have been asked to reflect on their writing and thus may simply not think of doing so”
“some writers may not be developmentally ready to reflect”

Group up, Share, Discuss, and Write!

Get into groups of three and write up suggestions for what you would tell my students for next semester. How can they succeed in this course, what should they do to stay on top of their work? Use specific examples from your own experience in this course. and compile your information into a single list.

Save it in a folder I have created called “How to Succeed in 1302”. Write all of your names at the top of the list. You are writing to my students for the spring semester, so help them out!

For next class...

Be prepared to take part in the last peer-review session of the semester. LAST DAY OF CLASS!
I will create the link on blackboard today or tomorrow in which you will submit your final portfolio.

Take a few minutes and type up any questions you have about the final.

Discussion

Post your Reflective Overview link to blackboard to turn in Final Portfolio. Everything else (genres, CTs, RJs, RRs, etc.) need to be in your google drive folder. Everything must be accessible to me.
Portfolios (Go here to make sure you have done everything you need to for the final)
Ask a classmate to open your brochures, presentations, or social media links to make sure they work BEFORE submitting.
Reminder about office hours after last day of class.
ALSO, I posted the photos I took of you from First-Year Symposium (FYS2018) on the website. I also shared the images in our class Google Doc folder in case you want to download the photos.

Peer-Review Reflective Overviews

Today is your last chance to get feedback on your Reflective Overviews.

Reflective Overviews:

Does the writer follow the Rubric for Final Portfolio for the Reflective Overview?
Depending on how far along in the process they are, does the writer provide sufficient and appropriate evidence in their RO?
Does the writer implement Naming What We Know and the ACRL in their RO to support their claims?
Does the writer follow the template provided? (Final Reflective Overview Template)

Final Portfolio Due December 10 at midnight.

Though the original due date was the 7th, I extended it for over the weekend. However, I cannot grant any extensions after that because I have a limited amount of time to get grades in and your portfolios take a long time to grade. I hope this extension to the 10th will be enough for all of you to feel satisfied with what you turn in!
Submit the link to your Final Reflective Overview on Blackboard like you did for the midterm by Dec. 10th at midnight.
Do not submit anything else but the RO on Blackboard. Everything should be in your google drive folder, but submit the RO so I can grade it in Blackboard.
